What the directive says
- When: the Right to Repair Directive (EU) 2024/1799 had to be transposed by 31 July 2026 and applies from that date.
- The form: Article 4 describes the European Repair Information Form set out in Annex I. Sources differ on whether it is voluntary; check your national law.
- Free of charge: the form must be free. Article 4 allows you to ask for the necessary costs of diagnostic services needed to fill it in, if the consumer is told before. Check your national law.
- 30 days: once provided, you shall not alter the conditions for 30 calendar days, unless you and the consumer agree a longer period. If the consumer accepts within that period, you must carry out the repair on those terms.
- Next: the Commission will set up a European online repair platform by 31 July 2027.
